RESOLUTION NO. R-2004- 1 L' 5
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA IN SUPPORT OF THE BROWARD
COUNTY FLORIDA BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S
REQUEST URGING CONGRESS TO REJECT EFFORTS TO
END OR LIMIT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S ROLE IN THE
NOURISHMENT OF U.S. BEACHES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
CLERK TO PROVIDE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
BROWARD COUNTY FLORIDA BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS AND APPROPRIATE MEMBERS OF THE
U.S. HOUSE AND SENATE; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, America's beaches provide vital economic, recreational, storm damage
reduction, and environmental benefits to the Nation; and
WHEREAS, nearly sixty percent of all Americans live within 50 miles of the Atlantic
and Pacific Oceans, the Gulf of Mexico and the five Great Lakes; and
WHEREAS, the Nation's beaches are the leading tourist destination for millions of
domestic and foreign visitors, providing jobs and business profits which in turn produce
billions of dollars of tax revenues for the Federal government, as well as state and local
governments; and
WHEREAS, beaches are Broward County's number one tourist attraction, generating
almost $600 million in annual economic impact and 14,400 full-time equivalent jobs for
Broward County, and $800 million and 26,000 jobs in the tri-county region; and

WHEREAS, the Federal government has made a commitment to our Nation's
beaches by partnering with state and local governments to fund on -going beach restoration
projects, including periodic beach nourishment, for over sixty years; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to support the Broward County
Florida Board of County Commissioner's request to urge Congress to reject efforts to end or
limit the federal government's role in the nourishment of U.S. beaches.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida urges
Congress to reject efforts to end or limit the federal government's role in the nourishment of
U.S. beaches.
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of the resolution
to the Broward County Florida Board of County Commissioners and appropriate members of
the U.S. House and Senate.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.

SECTION.- 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held
by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it
shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION. 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
