CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2004-143
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUNSETTING THE
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) COMMITTEE
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UPON PASSAGE AND
ADOPTION OF THIS RESOLUTION; EXTENDING
APPRECIATION TO THE EMS COMMITTEE AND
COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE EMS
COMMITTEE FOR THEIR EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Committee, f/k/a the
Ambulance Committee was established in 1993 to research and report to the City
Commission on matters related to emergency medical services; and
WHEREAS, in 1996 an RFP was issued which resulted in several agencies, both
public and private, submitting proposals for service; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission chose to integrate EMS into the Tamarac Fire
Department with support from Medics Ambulance Service; and
WHEREAS, in 1998 Tamarac Fire Rescue assumed primary responsibility for the
City of Tamarac's EMS service; and
WHEREAS, during the planning, implementation and establishment of Tamarac's
EMS system the EMS Committee, (f/k/a the Ambulance Committee) provided input to the
City Commission and Fire Chief regarding various matters related to EMS; and

WHEREAS, the system is now a fully integrated fire rescue service which
includes emergency medical transportation; and
WHEREAS, through the years 2003 and 2004 the EMS Committee has
struggled to garner a quorum searched for direction; and
WHEREAS, Tamarac Fire Rescue has reached a point where input from the
EMS Committee is no longer required and oversight of the Fire Rescue Service by the
EMS Committee would be a duplication of the professional reviews currently in place and
would be limited by numerous issues, including confidentiality and medical direction; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac extends its appreciation to
the members of the EMS Committee, and commends said members for their efforts on
behalf of the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in
the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to sunset the EMS
Committee effective immediately upon the passage and adoption of this Resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION_ 1: That the foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac extends its
appreciation to the EMS Committee and commends the members of the EMS Committee
for their efforts on behalf of the City of Tamarac.

SECTION 3: That the EMS Committee is hereby sunsetted effective immediately
upon passage and adoption of this Resolution.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
