R-2004-/:5_q A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE NOMINATION OF THE HONORABLE SAM GOLDSMITH, COMMISSIONER OF THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK, FOR THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES "E. HARRIS DREW AWARD"; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The Honorable Sam Goldsmith was elected to the Coconut Creek City Commission in March 1986, and faithfully served the Coconut Creek community in the capacity of Commissioner, Mayor and Vice Mayor, until his retirement in 2000; and WHEREAS, in April 2004 the Honorable Sam Goldsmith was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Coconut Creek City Commission; and WHEREAS, the Honorable Sam Goldsmith served his community and Broward County by serving on the Board of Directors of the Broward League of Cities and as President of the Broward League of Cities; and WHEREAS, the Honorable Sam Goldsmith served on the South Florida Regional Planning Council, the City/County Liaison Committee, the Broward Coalition of Community Organizations the Broward League of Cities Charter Review Committee, the By -Laws Committee, the Budget Committee, the Legislative Committee, the Nominations Committee, and the MPO Committee; and 1-1 Temp. Reso # 10486 June 17, 2004 Page 2 WHEREAS, the Honorable Sam Goldsmith also served on the Environmental Quality Policy Committee of the Florida League of Cities and the Florida League of Cities Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, the Honorable Sam Goldsmith has been honored by the community at large by being named to the Broward County Seniors Hall of Fame in 1999, and his name has been placed on the City of Coconut Creek Wall of Honor; and WHEREAS, the Honorable Sam Goldsmith has been nominated by the Broward League of Cities for the prestigious "E. Harris Drew Award", which is given annually to an outstanding municipal official in Florida; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to support the nomination of the Honorable Sam Goldsmith for the "E. Harris Drew Award", and urges the Florida League of Cities to look favorably upon this nomination and select the Honorable Sam Goldsmith as the recipient of this most prestigious award. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT: SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: The City of Tamarac fully supports the nomination of the Honorable Sam Goldsmith for the "E. Harris Drew Award". SECTION 3: The City Clerk of the City of Tamarac is hereby directed to provide a copy of this Resolution to the Broward League of Cities. 1 1 Temp. Reso # 10486 June 17, 2004 Page 3 SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. SECTION & This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 23rd day of June, 2004.
