RESOLUTION NO. R-2004- a7
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, URGING
THE GOVERNOR AND THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT THE KIDCARE
PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK
TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES TO THE
APPROPRIATE PARTIES; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the KidCare program offers working families in the State of Florida the
opportunity to purchase low cost health insurance for their children; and
WHEREAS, enrollment in the KidCare program was frozen during the 2003
legislative session due to budget cuts; and
WHEREAS, more than 100,000 children of low income, working families are
currently on a waiting list to purchase health insurance through the KidCare program;
and
WHEREAS, without health insurance coverage these children may need to forgo
medical care or visit an emergency room to receive medical treatment; and
WHEREAS, the Governors proposed budget recommends funding for the
program next fiscal year but does not address the needs of families on the waiting list
this fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to encourage the Governor
and Legislature to provide funding for the KidCare program immediately in order to
eliminate the waiting list and enable families to avail themselves of health insurance for
their children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida urges the
Governor and the Florida Legislature to take immediate action to resume funding and
eliminate the waiting list for the KidCare program.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of this resolution
to Governor Bush; Chair of the Legislative Budget Commission Ken Pruitt, and members
of the Broward County Legislative Delegation.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolution in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.

SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
