Committee Chairperson
Recommendation: Present the Redistricting Committee's report to the City Commission at its
June 9, 2003 Workshop Meeting.
Ism Redistricting.
Background: Prior to the March 11, 2003 general election, some of the precinct boundaries
for the City of Tamarac were changed, due to statewide redistricting. These changes caused
the City of Tamarac to be in conflict with its own Charter.
After the March 11, 2003 election, the City Clerk ascertained that while the population numbers
for each of Tamarac's four districts were well within the parameters set forth in the Charter,
there were several instances of split precincts in conflict with Tamarac's Charter.
At the May 27, 2003 Redistricting Committee meeting, the Redistricting Committee members
unanimously accepted the following changes to the Tamarac Commission Districts:
Move Precinct 2J from District 2 to District 4
Move Precinct 3J from District 4 to District 3
Move Precinct 7J from District 3 to District 2
Move Precinct 18J from District 3 to District 2
Initially, prior to the suggested movement of the precincts the population and percentage of
total population for each district was as follows:
District: Population: % of Total Population:
1 14,910 25.6%
2 14,140 24.3%
3 13,906 23.9%
4 15,210 26.1 /o
