CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2003- 3 9
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA ENCOURAGING THE BROWARD
COUNTY COMMISSION TO SUPPORT THE CONTINUED
OPERATIONS OF THE TAMARAC LIBRARY, LOCATED AT
8601 W. MCNAB ROAD, AND THE TAMARAC POPULAR
LIBRARY, LOCATED AT 10044 W. MCNAB ROAD;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac's residents are enthusiastic supporters and avid
users of the Broward County Library system; and
WHEREAS, the Tamarac Library, located at 8601 W. McNab Road, and the
Tamarac Popular Library, located at 10044 W. McNab Road, have served the community
for a number of years; and
WHEREAS, the community is familiar with the existing Tamarac branch library
locations and there is high usage; and
WHEREAS, the two existing library branches are conveniently located in shopping
areas with groceries, restaurants, banks, medical offices, and many other businesses
making them particularly useful for residents who have difficulty traveling to multiple
locations; and
WHEREAS, the existing library branches have a positive economic impact on local
businesses as they attract many customers to the shopping areas where they are located;

and
WHEREAS, the existing Tamarac branch locations provide a valuable service as
neighborhood libraries within walking distance for many residents; and
WHEREAS, it has come to the City of Tamarac's attention that the Broward County
Commission may be considering the closure of Tamarac Library and Tamarac Popular
Library upon the opening of the new library located on Commercial Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the closing of either branch library would have a detrimental affect on
the surrounding businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to encourage the Broward
County Commission to support the continued operations of the Tamarac Library, located at
8601 W. McNab Road, and the Tamarac Popular Library, located at 10044 W. McNab

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: The Tamarac City Commission encourages the Broward County
Commission to support the continued operations of the Tamarac Library located at 8601
W. McNab Road, and the Tamarac Popular Library, located at 10044 W. McNab Road.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution

to all members of the Broward County Commission.
SECTION 4: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 26th day of February, 2003.
