CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2003- . ?
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA OPPOSING AES CORPORATION'S
AND CALYPSO PIPELINE'S PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
OF A NEW NATURAL GAS PIPELINE IN BROWARD
COUNTY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac has been made aware of proposed construction
of a new natural gas pipeline in Broward County; and

WHEREAS, AES Corporation and Calypso Pipeline have made application to the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for permission to construct a natural gas pipeline
that would originate in the Bahamas and traverse through the City of Dania Beach, Florida
to the Florida Gas Transmission System; and
WHEREAS, the environmental issues and concerns associated with such
construction are believed to be so overwhelming as to preclude the City's support of the
project; and
WHEREAS, such environmental issues and concerns include not only those
associated with the risk of substantial injury to the shoreline, reefs, marine life, and the
Atlantic Ocean, but also those associated with the potential for adverse effects upon the air
and water quality in the County if a leak, rupture or terrorist act were committed causing a
breakage in the pipeline system; and

WHEREAS, responding to a catastrophic incident caused by a breakage, rupture or
terrorist act could have enormous economic consequences for the County and surrounding
municipalities; and
WHEREAS, the proposed route of the pipeline is close to densely -populated
residential areas within Dania Beach and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International
Airport which would expose many residents and visitors to the risks and hazards
associated with such a pipeline; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to oppose AES Corporation's
and Calypso Pipeline's proposed construction of a new natural gas pipeline in Broward

County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: The Tamarac City Commission opposes AES Corporation's and
Calypso Pipeline's proposals to construct a new natural gas pipeline in Broward County.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution
to all federal, state, and local elected representatives whose districts include the City of
Dania Beach as well as to all Broward County municipalities.
SECTION 4: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.

SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage
and adoption.
