CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2002-011
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING AND
ENDORSING THE MOVEMENT AND ACT TO LEAVE NO
CHILD BEHIND (S.940/H.R.1990); DECLARING TAMARAC
AS A "LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND CITY"; AUTHORIZING
AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO PROVIDE COPIES
OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BROWARD COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Act to Leave No Child Behind stems from the Movement to Leave
No Child Behind®, and is a national policy vision that incorporates the best practices and
programs to address the needs of America's children; and
WHEREAS, many of the provisions in the Act's 12 titles are drawn from legislation
introduced separately by Republicans and Democrats in the House and the Senate, and
enjoy bipartisan co-sponsors; and
WHEREAS, the Act has 9 Senate and 77 House co-sponsors to date; and
WHEREAS, over 800 organizations have endorsed the bill and the National
Conference of Black Mayors is a member of the Steering Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Act represents a renewed commitment to our children, and will
benefit every child in cities across America; and
WHEREAS, the Act will provide health coverage to all of America's 9.2 million

uninsured children and their parents; and
WHEREAS, the Act will ensure full funding for child care and Head Start for 3 and
4-year olds; and
WHEREAS, the Act will ensure that hard working parents have the support they
need to remain employed; and
WHEREAS, the Act will ensure that more children are in safe, nurturing and
permanent families, strengthen youth development efforts, and address critical safety
issues; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interests of the residents and citizens of the City of Tamarac to support and endorse the
Movement and Act To Leave No Child Behind (S.940/H.R.1990), and declare Tamarac as
a "Leave No Child Behind City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, supports and
endorses the Movement and Act To Leave No Child Behind (S.940/H.R.1990).
SECTION 3: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac der

SECTION 4: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide copies
of this Resolution to the Broward County Legislative Delegation.
SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held
by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application,
it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED this 9h day of January, 2002.
