CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2002-139
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE
EFFORTS OF THE BROWARD COUNTY FIRE
RESCUE TASK FORCE AND OPPOSING A
PROPOSAL OF THE BROWARD COUNTY CHARTER
REVIEW COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Tamarac Fire Department was created in 1975 to provide
improved emergency services to the residents and businesses in our community;
and
WHEREAS, in 1996 the City of Tamarac was granted the ability to provide
Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical services, including emergency
transportation to meet the needs of our community; and
WHEREAS, the standard of service provided by Tamarac Fire Rescue
consistently exceeds the minimum standards set by the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission supports continued quality
improvements to the EMS system based on the collaborative work of the
countywide Fire Rescue Task Force created by the Broward County
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Broward County Charter Review Commission has
proposed changes which would inhibit the City Commission of the City of
Tamarac from determining the needs of our community and providing appropriate

services, and which changes may reduce services to our community and
increase the cost to our residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission opposes any additional regulation by a
new county bureaucracy; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it
to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to
support continued quality improvements to the EMS system based on the
collaborative work of the countywide Fire Rescue Task Force, and to oppose the
proposal developed by the Broward County Charter Review Commission, as well
as any amendments that interfere with the ability of the Tamarac City
Commission to determine the level of EMS to be provided to our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby
ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific
part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and City Commission hereby support the
efforts of the Broward County Fire Rescue Task Force, and the Mayor and City
Commission hereby oppose any proposals developed by the Broward County
Charter Review Commission, as well as any amendments, that interfere with the
ability of the Tamarac City Commission to determine the level of EMS to be
provided to our community.

SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or
invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its passage and adoption.
