CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, APPOINTING GARY B. JONES AS CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL, EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 24, 2002, OR AT SUCH EARLIER DATE AS IS MUTUALLY AGREED UPON; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Charter, Section 5.04(a) provides that the City Manager "shall appoint and supervise the heads of all departments and Assistant City Manager... subject to the approval of the majority of the commission... subject to the approval of the commission, shall appoint, suspend, remove or demote the chief building official...."; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City Manager that Gary B. Jones be appointed as Chief Building Official, effective October 24, 2002, or at such earlier date as is mutually agreed upon; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to approve the City Manager's appointment. NOW, THEREFORE, IT BE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Temp. Reso. #9922 Page 2 September 25, 2002 SECTION 2: That on recommendation of the City Manager, attached hereto as Exhibit 1, Gary B. Jones is appointed as Chief Building Official, effective October 24, 2002 or at such earlier date as is mutually agreed upon. SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. SECTION 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 9t" day of October, 2002. Jones be appointed to the position of Chief Building Official, effective October 24, 2002, or at such earlier date as is mutually agreed upon. Mr. Jones holds a Bachelors Degree in Management from Florida Atlantic University and has over 20 years of experience in Building Inspections, Plans Examinations and Project Management. He currently holds a Building Code Administrator License, a Standard Plans Examiner License and a Standard Inspectors License and is certified by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals. Since September 1999, he has been serving in the City of Lauderdale Lakes as Building Official and was appointed Acting Director, Community Development Department from January 2002, through September 2002, and recently to Assistant Director, Community and Economic Development Department. Mr. Jones' responsibilities with the City of Lauderdale Lakes included the management of the building services, occupational licensing, planning and zoning and code enforcement functions. His career is marked with accomplishments such as successfully implementing the One -Stop Permitting Center and the development and implementation of a Lien Resolution Program, which successfully reduced outstanding Code Enforcement Liens and generated unexpected revenues for the City. Prior to his tenure with Lauderdale Lakes, he served in the City of Tamarac from March 1996 through September 1999, as a Structural Building Inspector and a Structural Plans Examiner. Before joining the public sector, Mr. Jones served as Project Director and Project Manager on several large commercial and residential construction projects.
