R-2002-344 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, APPOINTING ONE ALTERNATE MEMBER TO THE INSURANCE ADVISORY BOARD TO FILL AN UNEXPIRED ONE-YEAR TERM ENDING JUNE 26, 2003; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, at the Special Meeting held on June 26, 2002, the City Commission appointed Sandra Galloway to serve as an alternate member to the Insurance Advisory Board; 5wel WHEREAS, Ms. Galloway has not attended any meetings of the Insurance Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, Ms. Galloway has made known her desire to resign from the Insurance Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, Ms. Galloway's resignation from the Insurance Advisory Board creates a vacancy of one alternate member to the Insurance Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous of appointing one alternate member to the Insurance Advisory Board to fill an unexpired one-year term ending June 26, 2003; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Sections 2-136 and 2-137 of the Tamarac Code (attached hereto as Exhibit A) five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members of the LJ Temp. Reso. #9983 November 16, 2002 Page 2 Insurance Advisory Board shall be appointed by the City Commission to serve one (1) year terms; and WHEREAS, the Risk/Safety Manager and City Manager recommend approval; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to appoint one alternate member to the Insurance Advisory Board to fill an unexpired one-year term ending June 26, Affilm NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: The foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That pursuant to Section 2-137 of the Tamarac Code, the following person is hereby appointed as an alternate member of the Insurance Advisory Board to fill an unexpired one-year term ending June 26, 2003 or until such time as reappointments are made: Joseph LaPlaca SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. There is created and established an insurance advisory board which shall consist of five (5) regular members and two (2) alternates appointed by the city commission. If a regular member is unable to attend a meeting of the board, an alternate member may, with the approval of the chairman, take the place of the regular member at that meeting. For the duration of that meeting, such alternate member shall have all the rights and duties accorded a regular member. (Code 1975, § 2-33(a); Ord. No. 94-1, § 2, 1-26-94) Sec. 2-137. Membership; compensation; chairmen. The regular and alternate members of the insurance advisory board shall be appointed by the city commission on an annual basis and serve at the pleasure of the city commission without compensation. The chairman of the board shall be appointed by the city commission. No regular or alternate member shall be directly or actively engaged as an employee, officer, board member, consultant or representative of any organization doing business with the city in the field of insurance.
