CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2001- 06
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, URGING
THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) TO FAST -TRACK
THE SCHEDULING OF PROPOSED
TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS TO
RELIEVE TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND DELAYS
ON COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD BETWEEN S.R.
7/US 441 AND ROCK ISLAND ROAD AND TO
INITIATE COMPLETION OF SUCH
IMPROVEMENTS PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31,
2001; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT), BROWARD
COUNTY TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
DIVISION AND FLORIDA TURNPIKE
AUTHORITY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Policy 1.3 of the Transportation Element of the City's adopted
Comprehensive Plan states that the City shall request the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) to make road improvements to trafficways in Tamarac as
determined by the City; and
WHEREAS, there is significant traffic congestion and delay along Commercial
Boulevard before and particularly during peak traffic hours; and
WHEREAS, these issues have been routinely discussed with the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) from 1996 through 1997; and

WHEREAS, traffic congestion improvement plans by the FDOT have been
contemplated by FDOT for more than four (4) years with no substantive actions; and
WHEREAS, due to the lack of substantive actions by the FDOT, the traffic
congestions, delays and potential for accidents have increased; and
WHEREAS, based upon the information provided by the FDOT, the proposed
improvement project is slated to begin by March of 2003; and
WHEREAS, the proposed time -table is unacceptable to the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac requests the FDOT to fast -track the project to
begin before the end of December 31, 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development and the Director of Public
Works recommend approval of this request; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in
the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to urge the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) to fast -track the scheduling of proposed
transportation improvements to relieve traffic congestion and delays on Commercial
Boulevard between SR 7/US 441 and Rock Island Road and to initiate completion of such
improvements prior to December 31, 2001.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac hereby
requests the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to fast -track the scheduling of
proposed transportation improvements to relieve traffic congestion and delays on
Commercial Boulevard between S.R. 7/US 441 and Rock Island Road and to initiate
completion of such improvements prior to December 31, 2001.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is hereby authorized to transmit copies of this
Resolution to the FDOT, Broward County Transportation Planning Division and the Florida
Turnpike Authority.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.

SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
