R-2001- 142 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, ADVOCATING FOR AN ADDITIONAL POSTAL FACILITY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC; SUPPORTING A PETITION ADVOCATING FOR AN ADDITIONAL POSTAL FACILITY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE, THE UNITED STATES POSTMASTER GENERAL, AS WELL AS THE FEDERAL, STATE AND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is located in Broward County, Florida; and WHEREAS, there is only one United States Post Office within the City limits of the City of Tamarac; and WHEREAS, that Post Office is old, inefficient and incapable of meeting the needs of the residents of the City of Tamarac; and WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Tamarac would be better served by having an additional postal facility within the City limits of the City of Tamarac, either in the form of a traditional Post Office or a suitable alternative such as a postal substation; and WHEREAS, there is a petition circulating advocating for an additional postal facility within the City limits of the City of Tamarac; and Temp. Reso. # 9411 — May 23, 2001 Revision # 1 — June 12, 2001 Page 2 WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to advocate for an additional postal facility within the City limits of the City of Tamarac. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac hereby advocates for an additional postal facility within the City limits of the City of Tamarac. Section 3: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac supports a petition advocating for an additional postal facility within the City limits of the City of Tamarac. Section 4: The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service, the United States Postmaster General, as well as the Federal, State and County Legislative Representatives of the City of Tamarac. Temp. Reso. # 9411 — May 23, 2001 Revision # 1 — June 12, 2001 Page 3 Section 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion or applications of this Resolution. Section 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
