CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2001-191
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA,
EXPRESSING SUPPORT AND URGING THE
STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) TO PLACE THE
DEVELOPMENT OF A FLORIDA TURNPIKE-
OAKLAND PARK BOULEVARD INTERCHANGE
ON ITS TEN (10) YEAR PLAN; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF
THIS RESOLUTION; CASE NO. 20-MI-01;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Oakland Park Boulevard is a major arterial in the County of Broward
nning from State Road Al on the east to the Sawgrass Expressway on the west; and
WHEREAS, Oakland Park Boulevard serves several major cities including the cities
of Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Tamarac and Sunrise;
and
WHEREAS, the Florida Turnpike is a major north/south expressway with
interchanges at Sunrise and Commercial Boulevards; and
WHEREAS, there is a clear and present need to improve the accessibility to and
from the Florida Turnpike along Oakland Park Boulevard in Broward County; and
WHEREAS, the intersection of Oakland Park Boulevard and State Road #7 (U.S.
#441) is one (1) of the busiest intersections in Broward County; and

WHEREAS, the development of a Florida Turnpike -Oakland Park Boulevard
Interchange is not currently part of the Ten (10) Year Plan for the State of Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT); and
WHEREAS, a benefit would be received from the development of a Florida
Turnpike -Oakland Park Boulevard Interchange if such project were built within the next ten
(10) years; and
WHEREAS, the Broward County Board of Commissioners has requested support
from the local municipalities; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Community Development recommends approval of this
request; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in
the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to express support
and urge the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to place the
development of a Florida Turnpike -Oakland Park Boulevard Interchange on its Ten (10)
Year Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and

rmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac endorses the
lopment of a Florida Turnpike Interchange for Oakland Park Boulevard in Broward
unty, Florida, and urges the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to include
kland Park Boulevard interchange improvement in the Ten (10) Year Plan.
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized to transmit copies of
this Resolution to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Florida
urnpike Authority, the Broward County Legislative Delegation, the Broward Metropolitan
lanning Organization, the City of Lauderdale Lakes, the City of Lauderhill and any other
interested person(s).
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.

SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 111h day of July, 2001.
