R-2001-274 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, APPOINTING Mayor Joe Schreiber AS THE CITY OF TAMARAC'S VOTING DELEGATE TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES' ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AT THE ANNUAL CONGRESS OF CITIES IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA; APPOINTING Commissioner Edward C. Portner AS ALTERNATE DELEGATE TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES' ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AT THE CONGRESS OF CITIES IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO SEND A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is a member of the National League of Cities (League); and WHEREAS, the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting will be held at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia on December 8, 2001; and WHEREAS, policy development and adoption of resolutions will be undertaken during the business meeting at this Conference; and WHEREAS, the Voting Delegate from each city will cast votes on behalf of their appointing city and make decisions that determine the direction of the League; and WHEREAS, League By -Laws require that each city select one person to serve as the City's Voting Delegate; and WHEREAS, the City is allowed to select two Alternate Delegates, who may serve in the absence of the Voting Delegate; and Temp. Reso #9508 8/28/01 Rev. #2 9/24/01 Page 3 SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution. SECTION 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED this 26th day of September, 2001. Reso #9508 8/28/01 Rev. #2 9/24/01 Page 2 WHEREAS, the League, through a Memorandum dated August 17, 2001 (attached hereto as Exhibit "A"), has requested that the City appoint a Voting Delegate to the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia; and WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that the City appoint one Voting Delegate and one Alternate Delegate to the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to appoint Mayor Joe Schreiber as the City of Tamarac's Voting Delegate and Commissioner Edward C. Portner as the Alternate Delegate to the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac appoint Mayor Schreiber as the City of Tamarac's Voting Delegate to the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia. 9 , SECTION 3: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac appoint Commissioner Edward C. Portner as the Alternate Delegate to the National League of Cities' Annual Business Meeting at the Congress of Cities in Atlanta, Georgia. SECTION 4: That the City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the National League of Cities.
