CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-2001-332
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, URGING THE NATIONAL
LEAGUE OF CITIES (NLC) TO ADOPT A POLICY
ENCOURAGING THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
AGENCY (EPA) TO STRENGTHEN THE STANDARDS
RELATING TO ACCEPTABLE AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
REGULATIONS IN CITIES; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK
TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES, THE FLORIDA LEAGUE
OF CITIES, THE BROWARD LEAGUE OF CITIES AND
ANY INTERESTED MUNICIPALITIES IN BROWARD
COUNTY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the National League of Cities (NLC) has invited direct member cities to
submit policy proposals for consideration by the NLC at its annual Congress of Cities
Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac and its residents are faced with the potential siting
of additional power plants in or near the City of Tamarac; and
WHEREAS, these additional power plants are being reviewed by various regulatory
agencies who are compelled to consider National Environmental Protection Agency
standards; and
WHEREAS, the NLC is working to improve the quality of life in America's cities; and

WHEREAS, the quality of life in cities is directly affected by the air quality in cities;
and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress mandates that the EPA periodically revisit
National Ambient Air Quality Standards; and
WHEREAS, the National Ambient Air Quality Standards related to lead, carbon
monoxide and sulfur dioxide have not been updated in many years; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the best
interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to urge the NLC to adopt a
policy encouraging the EPA to strengthen the standards relating to acceptable ambient air
quality regulations in cities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac urges the NLC to
adopt a policy encouraging the EPA to strengthen the standards relating to acceptable
ambient air quality regulations in cities.
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this
resolution to the National League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities, the Broward
League of Cities and any interested municipalities in Broward County.
SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby

repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED this 14t" day of November, 2001.
