RESOLUTION NO. R-2001-333
*w A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING
CONDOLENCES ON BEHALF OF ALL TAMARAC
RESIDENTS TO THE FAMILIES OF VICTIMS OF THE
TERRORIST ATTACKS AT THE PENTAGON, IN THE
CRASH OF UNITED FLIGHT 93 IN PENNSYLVANIA, AND
IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK; EXPRESSING SUPPORT TO
THE CITIZENS OF NEW YORK WHO HAVE SUFFERED
SUCH DEVASTATION, IN THEIR REBUILDING EFFORTS;
EXPRESSING CONFIDENCE IN THE NATION, THE
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND HIS
ADMINISTRATION, AND THE UNITED STATES
CONGRESS IN THEIR WAR AGAINST TERRORISM;
ENCOURAGING THE CITIZENRY TO BIND TOGETHER IN
THE PROMISES FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS FREE
NATION; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO PROVIDE CERTIFIED COPIES OF THE
RESOLUTION TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED
STATES, GEORGE W. BUSH, THE PRESIDENT OF THE
UNITED STATES SENATE, THE SPEAKER OF THE
UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
FLORIDA GOVERNOR JEB BUSH, NEW YORK
GOVERNOR GEORGE PATAKI, CITY OF NEW YORK
MAYOR RUDOLPH GIULIANI, THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF
CITIES, THE BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, AND OTHER MUNICIPALITIES WITHIN
BROWARD COUNTY; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the citizens of the United States of America and the entire world
witnessed unprecedented acts of terrorism and carnage on September 11, 2001; and

WHEREAS, the cowardly terrorists chose to attack symbols of this great nation and
the enormity of their evil cannot be comprehended by reasonable people; and
WHEREAS, all persons of compassion — regardless of their nationality, race,
gender, philosophy or faith — stand appalled at the heinous crimes directed against this
country, a preeminent world power and guardian of peaceful democratic principles; and
WHEREAS, this realization reminds us that tragedy, while fearsome, compels us to
bind together in gratitude for our blessings and opportunities, and to steel our common
resolve by the promise for the future of this free nation; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to express these sentiments so that all will be washed
in the hope that inspired the nation's forefathers; and
WHEREAS, a universal blanket of compassion has enveloped the citizens of the
City of New York, the District of Columbia, and rural Pennsylvania to provide relief from the
trauma and anxiety resulting from these abominable acts; and
WHEREAS, many of the citizens of Tamarac, Florida, have migrated to South
Florida from the New York City area, with friends and relatives still residing there, and have
expressed their shared pain for the loss.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing WHEREAS clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION 2: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, on behalf of its

citizens, hereby expresses confidence in the nation, in its President, George W. Bush, and
his administration, and in the United States Congress, and encourages all Americans to
join together and rededicate themselves to the nation's principles of democracy as
established by the Constitution of the United States of America.
SECTION 3: That the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida hereby urges
President George W. Bush and Florida Governor Jeb Bush to declare September 11th as a
Day of Remembrance for the victims of the attacks, and that flags be flown at half-staff and
other appropriate observances be conducted to honor the victims.
SECTION 4: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide --
certified copies hereof to the President of the United States, George W. Bush, the
President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of
Representatives, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, New York Governor George Pataki, City of
New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, the Florida League of Cities, the Broward County Board
of County Commissioners, and other municipalities within Broward County.
SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 6: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.

SECTION 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
PASSED, ADOPTED, AND APPROVED this 14th day of November, 2001.
