A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE
APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO SEEK GRANT
FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE,
BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE UNDER THE LOCAL
LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT (LLEBG)
PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $30,548 TO ENHANCE
CRIME PREVENTION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT
PROGRAMS; AUTHORIZING A CITY MATCH IN THE
AMOUNT OF $ 3,394 TO BE ALLOCATED FROM THE
GRANT MATCHING FUND FOR A TOTAL PROJECT
COST OF $33,942; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVER ABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac desires to enhance its crime
prevention programs and law enforcement programs; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance provides
grants for projects that will reduce crimes and improve public safety; and
AHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac wishes to improve public
safety and enhance its law enforcement programs and accepts Broward Sheriffs Office
recommendations in their utilization of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant funding; and
WHEREAS, funding from the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant is earmarked,
hereto listed in Exhibit 1 to provide the City and District VII with additional officer coverage
for the FY00 Summer Recreation Program, continuation of funding to the school resource
officer for maintenance of "D.A.R.E. and related elementary school programs, purchase of

"clubs" for distribution to residents as a deterrent to auto theft, and overtime funds for
truancy intervention programs and drug enforcement initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida is willing to match the
grant request of $30, 548 with local funds in the amount of $3,394; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and Tamarac Broward Sheriffs Office District VII Chief
recommend approval; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the
best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to authorize the appropriate
City officials to seek grant funding from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Assistance in the amount of $30,548 to enhance law enforcement and crime prevention
programs with a City cash match of $3,394 for a total project cost of $33,942.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this resolution.
Section 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized to seek grant funding from the
U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance Local
Law Enforcement Block Grant Program in the amount of $30,548 with a cash match of
$3,394 from the grant matching fund for a total project cost of $33,942 to enhance the City
of Tamarac's crime prevention and law enforcement programs.

Section 3: All resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
Section 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by
any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in application,
it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion or applications of this Resolution.
Section 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

The Omnibus Fiscal Year 1999 Appropriations Act, Public Law 105-277, provides funds
for the implementation of the LLEBG Program, to be administered by BJA, U.S.
Department of Justice. The purpose of the LLEBG Program is to Provide units of local
government with funds to underwrite projects to reduce crime and improve public safety.
The LLEBG Program allows jurisdictions to find criminal justice initiatives in the
following seven purpose areas: supporting law enforcement; enhancing security measures;
establishing or supporting drug courts; enhancing the adjudication of cases involving
violent offenders; establishing multijurisdictional task forces; establishing community
crime prevention programs; and indemnification insurance.
The LLEBG Program is administered by the State and Local Assistance Division, BJA. If
