R-99- c� 96 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO APPROVE A 2.5% INCREASE IN PREMIUM FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE CITY'S DENTAL INSURANCE PROGRAM WITH THE PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2000; PROVIDING FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE EXISTING COST ALLOCATION OF THE DENTAL INSURANCE PREMIUM BETWEEN THE CITY AND EMPLOYEES; APPROVING THE APPROPRIATE BUDGETARY TRANSFERS OF FUNDS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the dental insurance was awarded to the Prudential Insurance Company effective October 1, 1996 through an expression of interest process; and WHEREAS, the rates for the group dental insurance program have increased this renewal period; and WHEREAS, the group dental insurance rates will increase approximately 2.5% effective January 1, 2000 due to the community rating methodology; and WHEREAS, the Risk Manager recommends approval of the group dental insurance program for employee dental insurance benefits effective January 1, 2000; and L, L..J 2 Temp. Reso. #8798 October 7, 1999 Revision #1, October 21, 1999 WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to provide low cost group dental insurance benefits for City employees. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and is hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SECTION 2: That the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized to approve a 2.5% increase in the monthly rate the City contributes for dental insurance coverage for City of Tamarac employees. The monthly rates shall be increased as follows: $18.71 to $19.18 for single coverage; $37.70 to $38.64 for employees plus one; and $52.67 to $53.99 for family coverage effective January 1, 2000. SECTION 3: That the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized to continue the existing cost allocation of the dental insurance premium between the City and employees. SECTION 4: That the appropriate City officials are authorized to enact appropriate budget transfer of funds. �J 1 3 Temp. Reso. #8798 October 7, 1999 Revision #1, October 21, 1999 SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 6: In any clause, section, or other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
