Reso. #8595 April 13, 1999 1 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NO. ? 7 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE BROWARD ADVISORS FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION (BRACE) SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR A SILVER OPPORTUNITY, TWO-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500; AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE BUDGETARY TRANSFER OF FUNDS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida supports the Broward Education Foundation's Broward Advisors for Continuing Education (BRACE) Scholarship Fund which offers college and vocational school scholarships to qualifying public school graduates in Broward County and authorizes a contribution to said fund; and WHEREAS, financial contributions to the BRACE Scholarship Fund will be matched by the Florida State Legislature through the Florida Pre Paid Fund; and WHEREAS, since 1989, the BRACE Scholarship Fund has awarded 1,021 scholarships totaling $1,362,378 to public school graduates in the Broward County area; TiTJ WHEREAS, the BRACE Scholarship Fund allows the City of Tamarac the opportunity to financially assist a resident public school graduate in pursuing a higher education at a postsecondary school throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to sponsor a Temp. Reso. #8595 April 13, 1999 2 Silver Opportunity, two year scholarship, for a resident public school graduate through the BRACE Scholarship Fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA THAT: SECTION 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are HEREBY made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption hereof. SECTION 2: The appropriate City officials are authorized to make a contribution to the Broward Advisors for Continuing Education (BRACE) Scholarship Fund in the amount of $2,500 for a Silver Opportunity Two -Year Scholarship to benefit a resident public school graduate. SECTION 3: The appropriate budgetary transfer of funds is hereby approved. SECTION 4: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
