A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE
APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIAL TO SEEK GRANT FUNDING
FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF
COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES, IN THE
AMOUNT OF $375,000 IN ORDER TO PROVIDE FUNDING
FOR SALARIES AND BENEFITS OF FIVE (5) NEW POLICE
OFFICERS OVER A THREE YEAR TIME PERIOD;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac desires to enhance law
enforcement programs; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented
Policing Services (COPS), provides grants for new police officers in an amount equal to
a maximum of 75% of the approved salary and benefits for each officer over three
years up to a cap of $75,000 per officer; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac understands that the
Federal share decreases and the local share increases from year to year; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of District VII, Broward Sheriffs Office, requires five (5)
new officers to improve the quality of police services to the citizens of Tamarac; and

WHEREAS, the estimated cost of these five officers over three years is
$1,020,000 with a maximum grant award of $375,000 resulting in a local match
requirement of approximately $645,000; and
WHEREAS, the City's contract with Broward Sheriff's Office will need to be
amended upon the addition of five new officers; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of District VII, Broward Sheriffs
Office, recommend approval; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be
in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to enhance law
enforcement programs through the addition of five new police officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
resolution.
Section 2: The City Manager is hereby authorized to seek grant funding from
the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, in the
amount of $375,000 (application attached hereto as Exhibit A). Acceptance of the grant
is subject to future City Commission approval.
Section 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.

Section 4: If any clause, section, other park or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion or applications of this
Resolution.
Section 5: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
