R-96- ,2oZ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RECOGNIZING AND COMMEMORATING FEBRUARY 1996 AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PRQVIDING FOR AN EFFECTJ-VE DATE WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac is proud to number among its citizenry people of African -American descent and join Broward County, the State of Florida and the nation in commemorating February 1996 as "Black History Month"; and WHEREAS, Black History Month and the recognition of its significance has its origin dating back to 1926 when the father of black history, Carter G. Woodson, conceived Negro History Week; and WHEREAS, the rich history and heritage of African -Americans is documented in such fields as education, medicine, science, arts, music, dance, architecture, drama, athletics and engineering, as well as many others; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac, Florida deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City of Tamarac to proudly declare the month of February 1996 as "Black History Month". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: _QECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. SEQTION 2: That the month of February 1996 shall be declared "Black History 1 1 2 Temp. Reso. #7297 Month" within the City of Tamarac and the entire community is urged to join in the celebration of this historical observance. SECTION 3: That the City Clerk will distribute copies of the official resolution to the Broward County Commission, Broward League of Cities and NAACP. SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
