CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-96- ; .(( p
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE
"EASTWARD HO!" INITIATIVE AS RECOMMENDED
BY THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION FOR A
SUSTAINABLE SOUTH FLORIDA; URGING STATE,
COUNTY AND LOCAL LEGISLATORS TO ADOPT
LEGISLATION TO IMPLEMENT EASTWARD HO!;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, on or about June, 1996, the South Florida Regional Planning
Council in conjunction with the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council pursuant to
an initiative of the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida, prepared an
issues and options report intended to provide a foundation for the implementation of
Eastward Ho! Revitalizing South Florida's Urban Core; and
WHEREAS, portions of the City of Tamarac are located within the Eastward Ho!
corridor which boundaries are the Turnpike to the west and FEC Railroad Track to the
east along the spine of 1-95; and

WHEREAS, the City Manager has requested the City Commission to adopt this
Resolution urging the Broward Delegation and others to implement State, County and
local legislation to encourage infill and redevelopment of lands not adjacent to the
Everglades; to protect the environment and encourage compact, efficient development
matters; to forge a public/private partnership which understands that compact urban
density results in an overall cost reduction; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Tamarac deems it to be in the
best interest of the residents of the City of Tamarac to adopt this resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this
Resolution.
SECTION 2: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac hereby adopts this
Resolution in support of the Eastward Ho! Initiative as recommended by the Governor's
Commission for a Sustainable South Florida; and
SECTION 3: The City Commission of the City of Tamarac urges the State,
County and local governments located within the Eastward Ho! corridor to adopt any
and all legislation which may reasonably be necessary in order to accomplish the goals
and objectives of the Eastward Ho! Initiative.

SECTION 4: The City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized and
directed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to the State Legislature, the Broward
Delegation, and such other entities or agencies as deemed appropriate by the City
Manager.
SECTION 5: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 6 If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is
held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
SECTION 7: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
