A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING AND
AUTHORIZING OBSERVANCE OF THE BIRTHDAY OF
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. AS A PAID HOLIDAY FOR ALL
EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, in the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiated with the Federation
of Public Employees District No. 1, MEBA (FPE), the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
was recognized as a holiday for employees covered by that Collective Bargaining
Agreement; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments and ideals of Martin Luther King, Jr. are such
that all employees and residents of the City of Tamarac should recognize and honor same;
and
WHEREAS, the Personnel Director and the City Manager recommend approval of
Martin Luther King, Jr. day as a permanent holiday to be celebrated on the same day
recognized by the Federal Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
SECTION That the City of Tamarac shall observe the birthday of Martin
Luther King, Jr. as a paid holiday for all employees of the City of Tamarac.
SECTION 3: All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4: If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution
is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this
Resolution.
