R-94- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE CITY OF SUNRISE TO OBTAIN A POLICE HIRING SUPPLEMENT GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE WHEREAS, the City of Sunrise, Florida, has an application pending fo the Bureau of Justice Assistance Police Hiring Supplement Grant; and WHEREAS, Sunrise currently has the fifth largest population ii Broward County, due in part to an unprecedented population growth afte Hurricane Andrew; and WHEREAS, the Sawgrass Mall, which opened in 1990, attracts a average of 250,000 visitors per week which has given rise to tremendous increase in economic crime, retail theft, vehicle thefts, etc. and WHEREAS, the Sunrise Police Department has been significantl understaffed for the past five years and, in order to compensate for a la of personnel, calls are handled on a priority -first basis and they a making every effort to do more with less in order to fulfill their publi safety responsibility to the community. The requested funding woul enable the Sunrise Police to do even more to fulfill their goals on beha of the Sunrise community; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida, deems i to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City c Tamarac to support a local City's endeavors to provide the best polio services possible to their residents. Reso. # 6722 SECTIQN _I; That the City Council of the City of Tamarac wholeheartedly endorses and supports the City of Sunrise in thei endeavors to obtain the necessary funding available from the IJ.S Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, to provide needel police services to its residents. ,SECZION 2: All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions ii conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 3: If any clause, section, other part or applicatioi of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to bi unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect thi validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
