CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-92- 1% b
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA, URGING PRESIDENT GEORGE
BUSH AND THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO RE-
BUILD AND RE -OPEN HOMESTEAD AIR FORCE BASE;
PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
WHEREAS, Homestead Air Force Base was virtually destroyed by
Hurricane Andrew; and
WHEREAS, Homestead Air Force Base can be considered an
integral part of South Florida's infrastructure and the nation's
defense system and is a vital link in the nation's fight against
drug trafficking; and
WHEREAS, Homestead Air Force Base is strategically located
and significantly was kept open in spite of the recent closing of
many Army and Air Force bases throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, the rebuilding of Homestead Air Force Base will help
the economy of our state by creating jobs during construction and
also result in the reemployment of the people of Homestead and
surrounding areas who worked at the base and are now unemployed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
,SECTION 1s_ That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are
hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are
hereby made a specific part of this Resolution.
That the City Commission of the City of
Tamarac hereby urges President Bush and the United States Congress
to re --build and re -open Homestead Air Force Base for use as a
military base or in conjunction with commercial aviation.
SECTION 3_ That the City Clerk is directed to send a copy
of this Resolution to the Broward League of Cities, and to each
member of the Northwest Council of Mayors.

SECTION 4: All resolutions or parts of resolutions i
conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of suc
conflict.
,SECTION 5: If any clause, section, other part o
application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent
jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.
SECTION 6_i This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage and adoption.
