CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-85-/,-6
A RESOLUTION OF THE TAMARAC CITY COUNCIL URGING
THE BROWARD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO LEAVE THE
SCHOOL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES UNCHANGED IN THE CITY
OF TAMARAC AND ALLOW THE TAMARAC STUDENTS TO
CONTINUE TO ATTEND NEARBY TARAVELLA HIGH SCHOOL
RATHER THAN BEING TRANSFERRED TO PIPER HIGH SCHOOL;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Broward County School Board is considering
the reassignment of Tamarac students from Taravella High School to
Piper High School; and
WHEREAS, this would be disruptive and counter productive
to the students' education as well as an inconvenience to the
students and their families; and
WHEREAS, the public schools in Broward County are tax
supported by all county taxpayers and should be operated without
regard for municipal boundaries, to the best benefit of the
students; and
WHEREAS, the number of school age residents in Tamarac is
small and decreasing as few families are moving into the City and
the present students are outgrowing the school age; and
WHEREAS, the school age residents of Tamarac are being
victimized by poor planning on the School Board's part in projecting
population growth in Coral Springs and providing high schools of
adequate size to accommodate Coral Springs students as well as
near by Tamarac students; and
WHEREAS, the Tamarac City Council is very concerned about
the actions of the School Board which may impact adversely on
its residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the Broward County School Board is urged
to leave unchanged the boundary lines in the City of Tamarac for

the school districts of the public schools attended by the school
age residents of Tamarac, particularly as it relates to the
students assigned to Taravella High School and Piper High School.
SECTION 2: That the Broward County School Board is urged
to consider the following factors:
a) All students must attend three (3) different schools
as they progress from first through twelfth grade.
Additional changes are traumatic and counter productive
to the education, development and well being of the
students.
b) The best interests of the students must be the primary
concern of the School Board.
c) Most of the Tamarac students attending Taravella Nigh
School are within walking distance which allows them
to attend a neighborhood school and saves the County
the cost of bussing.
SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is authorized and directed
to send a copy of this resolution to:
Each Member of the School Board,
The School Administrator, and
The Principal of Taravella High School.
SECTION 4: This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage.
