CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R--85-
A RESOLUTION URGING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF BROWARD COUNTY TO INCLUDE CLASS I BIKEWAYS IN FUTURE
COUNTY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, there were approximately 1,025 persons killed or injured
_n bicycle accidents in Broward County in 1983; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of bikeways will materially reduce bicycle
accidents; AND
WHEREAS, bikeways will offer encouragement to thousands of visito
and residents to engage their use for recreational purposes as well as
a method for reduction of the use of automobiles on streets and high-
ways by greater use of bicycles, and to enhance the attractiveness of
the area to tourists and visitors; and
WHEREAS, bicycle traffic on our streets and highways seriously
impedes the flow of automobile traffic; and
WHERET-S, there is an acknowledged and definite need for improved
bicycle facilites in Broward County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAP-AF.AC,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The Board of County Commissioners of Broward County is
hereby requested and urged to include Class I Bikeways in all major
construction of new roadways as well as modification of old roadways
in Broward County.
SECTION 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
fits adoption.
