HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Resolution R-80-104Introduced by: Temp. # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7I 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NO. 8 —g0 /O/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE SITING OF A PRIVATE HELISTOP LANDING AREA AT THE GATE CONDOMINIUM LOCATED ADJACENT TO AN INTENSIVELY POPULATED AREA OF THE CITY WHEREAS, an application has been made to the Department of Transportation of the State of Florida for the siting of a private helicopter landing area at the Gate Condominium located near the intersection of Rock Island Road and Bailey Road, and WHEREAS, there has been no showing that this Helistop is to benefit anyone other than the individual who owns the Gate Condominium and adjoining lands, and roadways, and WHEREAS, the proposed location is adjacent to heavily traveled WHEREAS, the proposed location is adjacent to and surrounded by numerous, intensively occupied housing areas including the Bermuda Club, the Shaker Village, the Sabal Palm, Woodlands and Mainlands Section, and WHEREAS, the proposed location is within a very short distance of a 120' wide Florida Power and Light Company high intensity transmission line right-of-way, and WHEREAS, the proposed location is within 2.8 miles of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, and WHEREAS, Officials of the City and numerous residents of Tamarac have testified at a Public Hearing indicating their fears and concerns for their safety should the Helistop be approved. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. The Council specifically finds that the proposed site for the Helistop conflicts with the health and safety of the citizens of the City of Tamarac SECTION 2. The Council abhors any decision which would allow the private wishes of one privileged individual to cause apprehension, concern and a diminished life style for thousands of residents of Tamarac. SECTION 3. The Council formally requests that the Department of Trans- portation deny the proposed application for the Helistop. SECTION 5. The Council hereby requests the assistance of Governor Robert Graham, Congressman Daniel Mica, Congressman Edward J. Stack, Members of the Broward Legislative Delegation, Members of the County Commission and Officials of adjoining Municipalities in expediting the denial and copies of this Resolution are hereby directed to these Officials to facilitate such assistance. SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
