CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R-,?D-//,j
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE TO GRANT AN EXTENSION
OF 30 DAYS FOR THE POST CENSUS REVIEW PERIOD;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Bureau of the Census, United States Department
of Commerce, is presently conducting a count of the population of
the United States of America; and
WHEREAS,local governments rely on a full and complete count of
the population as the basis for long-term planning; and
WHEREAS, local governments are concerned that the census count
creates data that is the basis for many State and Federal aid
programs in which the people of Florida benefit; and
WHEREAS, any undercounts will lead to less aid and revenue be
distributed to the very areas where the need is greatest; and
WHEREAS, a review of the actual population count, known as the
Post Census Review, is to be made by local officials within a ten-day
period following the final census date; and
WHEREAS, local governments are concerned that the post -census
review period be extended to thirty days to allow for the identifi-
cation of undercounts and to afford a substantive role to local
governments in the census process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION l: That the City Council urges tha State Legislature
and Governor Graham to request of the United States Department of
Commerce an extension to thirty days of the post -census review period.
