CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO.
'A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL 647 PERTAINING TO
CONSUMER PROTECTION BOARDS IN CHARTER COUNTIES.
WHEREAS, Consumer Protection Boards serve as initial agencies
to settle problems between vendors and vendees, and
WHEREAS, each instance where such a Board is able to resolve a
consumer.problem is potentially one less instance where a party will seek
judicial redress of his grievances. and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the taxpayers of the
State of Florida to minimize the dockets in the Courts, and
WHEREAS, Consumer Boards also have the ability to deal with
consumer problems involving small amounts of money and consequently allow the
parties with legitimate grievances, who are not able to invest in Court filing
fees, to get results, and
WHEREAS, Consumer Boards act as impartial decision makers in
consumer complaint situations, and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the people of the State
of Florida for said Boards to have authority to determine civil penalties, and
WHEREAS, House Bill 647 would give Consumer Protection Boards
the authority to determine civil penalties to be imposed for violation of certain
orders of such Boards.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: For the reasons set forth in the Whereas clauses above,
the City of -Tamarac supports House Bill 647 and encourages the members of the
Florida Legislature to enact same.
SECTION 2: A copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to each
member of the Broward County Legislative Delegation, to the Broward County League
of Cities and to the Florida League of Cities.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective immediately.
