A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO CONSTRUCTION OF COMMERCIAL
BLVD. AND ROCK ISLAND ROAD BY THE BURKHARD PLAZA.
WHEREAS, Broward County is in the process of widening and improving
both Commercial Blvd. and Rock Island Road, and
WHEREAS, located at the Southeast corner of Rock Island Road
and Commercial Blvd. is the Burkhard Shopping Plaza, and
WHEREAS, the Burkhard Plaza is a commercial establishment which
hasoperated without problem within the City of Tamarac for a number of years, and
WHEREAS, the proposed construction of Rock Island Road will
severely damage, if not destroy the economic viability of the Burkhard Plaza by
eliminating a reasonable means of egress from the Plaza onto Rock Island Road, and
WHEREAS, the elimination of the reasonable means of egress from
Burkhard Plaza onto Rock Island Road would necessitate drivers going totally out
of their way to go south on Rock Island Road, and
WHEREAS, most of the business of the Burkhard Plaza comes from
the Inverrary area and the Woodlands area, and
WHEREAS, to get to the Woodlands area and Inverrary area from the
Burkhard Plaza it would be necessary to go south on Rock Island Road, and
WHEREAS, a reasonable means of providing access from Burkhard
Plaza onto Rock Island"Road would be to end the projected median at the existing
driveway of Burkhard Plaza rather than extending same to Commercial Blvd., and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Tamarac and
Broward County to keep up the tax base and to have good, clean business within
both the City, and the County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC:
SECTION 1: All the recitations contained above are true and
correct.
SECTION 2: The Board of County Commissioners of Broward
County is respectfully requested to direct its staff to take whatever reasonable
action it can take to see that construction of Rock Island Road and Commercial
Blvd. is not at the cost of existing businesses such as Burkhard Plaza and that the
plans be modified to allow Burkhard Plaza to continue to operate and to service in

a reasonable manner customers living in the Inverrary and the Woodlands areas.
One reasonable method of achieving this goal would appear to be to have the
median on Rock Island Road end at the existing driveway of the Plaza
SECTION 3: A copy of this Resolution shall be furnished to each
member of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, to the Broward
County Administrator, to the Broward County Director of its Department of Trans-
portation, to the Director of the Broward County Division of Engineering.
SECTION 4: This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
