CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R - gro - / ,5S
A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO ANY PROPOSAL
TO LIMIT THE COST -OF -LIVING ADJUSTMENTS IN
SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND IN SUPPORT OF
ALTERNATIVE POLICIES OF THE UNITED STATES
GOVERNMENT TO LOWER THE INFLATION RATE WITHIN
OUR ECONOMY.
WHEREAS, a proposal is now being discussed by the Executive
Branch of the United States Government which would limit the cost -
of -living adjustments payable to our elder citizens through the
present Social Security system of compensation benefits to the
t elderly, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac wholeheartedly supports efforts
of the federal government to curb inflation in our society, but
feels that the "capping" of cost -of -living adjustment benefits to
our elderly is not the appropriate area of government spending in
which to effectuate economies (especially where as in the past year
the cost -or -living adjustment is anticipated to be well under the
actual increases suffered by our elderly in the areas of their
primary spending; namely food, fuel and shelter).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City of Tamarac opposes any proposal
which would limit cost -of -living adjustments to Social Security
compensation.
SECTION 2: A certified copy of this Resolution shall be sent
to every United States legislator for whom the City of Tamarac's
residents constitute a portion of his constituency.
SECTION 3: A certified copy of this Resolution shall otherwise
be sent to the Broward League of Cities and to the Chief Executive
Officers of each municipality within Broward County and to the
Broward County Commission to seek support from other municipalities
for this Resolution.

SECTION 4.: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its passage.
