CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R- $O -/,j 9
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
IN SUPPORT OF,"PAR", AN ORGANIZATION TO AID
AND ASSIST RUNAWAYS IN BROWARD COUNTY WITHOUT
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES.
WHEREAS, there are an estiinatedsix thousand runaways per
year in Broward County, and
WHEREAS, there is presently no adequate runaway shelter in
Broward County, and
WHEREAS, there is a need for a runaway shelter where such
juveniles, who have no criminal record, can voluntarily receive food,
shelter and counseling; and if appropriate, receive semi -skilled job
training to enable them to obtain jobs, and
WHEREAS, such a program will afford such runaways an option for
food, shelter and counseling rather than turning to prostitution,.
drugs or rip-offs, and
WHEREAS, juveniles are responsible for approximately 500 of the
crime in Broward County which has resulted in an epidemic of chaotic
impact on our Broward County community; and
WHEREAS, Program To Aid Runaways, Inc., a non-profit corporation,
known as "PAR" has been organized by a group of business, professiona-
and political men and women, and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to express its support of
said organization and its purposes,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY -OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Tamarac, Floridz
does hereby express its unqualified support to the juvenile runaway
program known as "PAR", and does hereby urge all municipalities with-
in Broward County to join in this support.
SECTION 2: That the League of Cities of Broward County be and
the same is hereby urged to endorse and support this much needed
program, and encourage all of its member cities to do likewise.

SECTION 3: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish
a copy of this Resolution to the Executive Director of the Broward
League of Cities.
SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall be in force and take
effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
