CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R- �0 --:Z-37
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF A STATE
CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT NUMBER 5 RELATING
TO FORTY -YEAR ROAD BONDS.
WHEREAS, Amendment Number 5 would authorize the use of the County
portion of the gas tax for up to 40 years on each bond issue, and
WHEREAS, the present law limits the bonding to 40 years from the
date of 1968 revision of the Constitution, and
WHEREAS, the adoption of this Amendment will correct the inequity
in Broward County by enabling its citizens to pay for the new roads
over a full 40 year period for each road project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council wishes to express support for
adoption of an Amendment Number 5 to Section 9, Article XII of the
State Constitution to replace the 40 year limitation on the use of
the second gas tax to finance bonds for roads, changing the time to
40 years from the time of issuance of the bonds, so that todays
residents do not have to pay now for the future user.
SECTION 2: That the City Clerk is directed to send copies of
this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities and the Broward
League of Cities.
