CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R- D
A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO
INCREASE THE OPERATING HOURS OF AUTO INSPECTION
STATIONS LOCATED WITHIN BROWARD COUNTY, OR TAKE .
SUCH OTHER STEPS INCLUDING THE OPENING OF ADDITIONAL
AUTO INSPECTION STATIONS OR THE ELIMINATION OF AUTO
INSPECTION STATIONS SO AS TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE THE TIME
SPENT WAITING FOR SUCH INSPECTIONS BY THE CITIZENS OF
BROWARD COUNTY.
WHEREAS, Governor Bob Graham pledged, as one of the planks on his
platform for election, to either eliminate auto inspections or add additional
stations and extend the hours of inspections at existing stations where
needed to reduce the time spent by the citizens of Florida on line waiting
such inspections; and
WHEREAS, no demonstrable evidence has been advanced to substantiate
that such periodic auto inspections have had any positive effect in
reducing automobile accidents and resultant injuries to the occupants
thereof; and
WHEREAS, Broward County,; Florida seems to be the victim of too few
stations for auto inspections, which are operated on too restricted a
time basis to begin to serve the automobiles registered in Broward County
on such inspections as are now required under State law, with the result
that citizens are often called upon to lose half a day or more in wages
to say nothing of frustration, waiting in lines awaiting inspection on
their vehicles; and
WHEREAS, Governor Graham has taken no step whatsoever to fulfill his
aforestated campaign promises to the people of Florida, and more specifically,
the citizens of Broward County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC,
FLORIDA, that:
SECTION I: A Certified copy of this Resolution to be sent Governor
Graham with an earnest request that he address promptly the inordinate
waiting of Broward County citizens for inspection of their auto vehicles
in such manner as he deems most proper ( be it the elimination
of such inspections, the addition of stations, or the extension of hours
of operation of the existing stations to at least sixteen hours a day in
Broward County, Florida).
