HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Resolution R-70-052CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION #k } 112 -6 WHEREAS, the City Council is aware of the desires of the public with regard to the term of office, method of election, and other matters as provided by the legislature of the State of Florida in the Charter of the City, and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to express its intent and to emphatically declare its agreement with the need for modifica- tion and amendment of certain Charter provisions, and WHEREAS, the City Council is cognizant of the efforts of the Tamarac Homeowner's Association, Inc. on behalf of the general public and wishes to seek said Homeowner's Association's aid in accomplishing the needed Charter amendments, and WHEREAS, the City Council, though requiring the termination of office by some of its members prior to the expiration date now in effect, deems it in the best interests of the general public and the City to commence preparation of said Charter revisions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL of the City of Tamarac, Florida, That the City Council does hereby express its intent to provide for Charter amendments to include but not be limited to the following: 1. Annual elections of Councilmen; 2. Terms of office of Councilmen to be staggered in order to provide for continuing public elections of Councilmen on an annual basis. 3. Terms of office for all Councilmen to be limited to two years. 4. Change in calendar month for Council elections. It is hereby declared to be the intent of the City Council that the first elections under the revised Charter shall be held in the • Spring of 1971. 5. Revision of fiscal year in order to provide for the approval of a budget by a new Council elected in the Spring and to assure continuity of fiscal matters in the City so that the budget could be adopted prior to the requirements of the County Tax Assessor and Collector. 6. The change of designation of office from City Clerk to City Manager or Administrator. In order to commence preparation of the aforesaid Charter amendments for presentment to the Legislative Delegation at the earliest possible time, the Council does hereby create a committee for said purpose to consist of a representative of the City Council, the City Attorney, and a representative to be designated by the Tamarac Homeowners' Association, Inc., and to be designated by the Woodlands Homeowners' Association, Inc. Request is hereby made of said Homeowners' Associations to pro- vide a representative at the earliest possible time. That the Council further declares its intent that said committee examine methods and amendments to accomplish these purposes and to make recommendations to the City Council for the adoption of said Charter amendments at the earliest pos- sible time and that said committee work with representatives of the Legislative Delegation of Broward County in order to accomplish the goals set forth herein. It is the intent of the Council at that time to take whatever steps are necessary in acting upon said recommendations to accomplish the appro- priate Charter amendments.
