WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 166 of the Florida Statutes petitions for the election of a Charter Revision Board have been presented to the Council, and WHEREAS, within ten days of receipt of said petitions the City Clerk has reviewed same and has compared the names on said petitions with the official lists of registered voters and has certified by letter to the City Council that at least 20% of the qualified voters of the City of Tamarac have petitioned for the election of a Charter Revision Board, and WHEREAS, the Council has previously expressed its intent and desire to facilitate the revision of the Charter of the City of Tamarac, and WHEREAS, the Council is now desirous of, pursuant to Chapter 166 of the Florida Statutes, setting a date for election of a Charter Revision Board. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL of the City of Tamarac, Florida: That pursuant to Chapter 166 of the Florida Statutes the Council of the City of Tamarac hereby calls for an election for a Charter Revision Board. Said election shall be held on WednesdaW , the 20th day of . January , 19 71 . That pursuant to Chapter 166 of the Florida Statutes and because the last Federal census indicates that the City of Tamarac had a population of less than 5,000, the Charter Revision Board shall be comprised of five (5) members. That the candidates for the office of member of the Charter Revision Board must be resident qualified voters of the City of Tamarac. Any bona fide resident qualified voter of the City may be a candidate for the office of member of the Charter Revision Board by filing a verified Notice of Candidacy for Board Member with the City Clerk, not more than .r . • • sixty days and not less than fifteen days before the date of the election as hereinabove set. That the election of board members shall be pursuant to the procedure outlined for the election of councilmen under the Charter of the City of Tamarac. That each candidate for board member in addition to filing a Notice of Candidacy for Board Member as hereinabove provided for shall at the time of filing said Notice pay to the City Clerk as a qualifying fee the sum of $10.00, which money shall be used for the purpose of defraying election expenses of the City. The Notice of Candidacy for Board Member shall be in the form provided for by the Charter of the City of Tamarac and same will be made available by the City Clerk at his office at City Hall. That the five candidates receiving the highest number of votes at said election, shall be thereby elected as members of the Charter Revision Board. That the registration books of the City of Tamarac for the purpose of registering as an elector shall remain open during the regular business hours of the City and the City Clerk shall, during such time, accept the registration of qualified persons. However, the registration books shall be closed and no person shall be permitted to register during a period beginning thirty days prior to the election as hereinabove set and shall be closed thirty days prior to the referendum election on Charter revision to be held pursuant to the requirements of Chapter 166. The City Clerk is hereby instructed to take the neces- sary steps to implement the election as hereinabove set and in said preparation to comply with Article VI of the Charter of the City of Tamarac and Chapter 166 of the Florida - 2 - Statutes. In addition thereto, the City Clerk is to adequately inform the public, when requested, of the provi- sions of Chapter 166 of the Florida Statutes and Article VI of the Charter of the City of Tamarac. The City Clerk is further instructed that he shall publish notice of said election as hereinabove set in a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Tamarac once each week for four consecutive weeks next preceeding said election, the first publication thereof to be not less than twenty-five days prior to such election. It is recognized that pursuant to Chapter 166 the elected Charter Revision Board shall, within thirty days after the election, meet and organize by electing a chairman and adopt- ing rules of procedure. Further, that the Charter Revision Board's work shall be completed within ninety days after their election. After completion of their work the Charter Revision Board shall submit to the qualified voters of the City at a special election at a time to be designated by the Board, which shall be within sixty days after the Board's final adjournment, the proposed Charter or Charter amendments.
