HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity of Tamarac Resolution R-70-065CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA RESOLUTION # WHEREAS, the Council has called for an election to be held on January 20, 1971, for the purpose of electing five Charter Board members, and WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Tamarac makes provision for the appointment of an election board con- sisting of a clerk of elections and not less than three inspectors, and WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac by Resolution No. 57-69 heretofore created an election board for a previous election and is now desirous of repealing said Resolution, and WHEREAS, the City Council is now desirous of creating a new election board and making appointments thereto. " NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE City of Tamarac, Florida: That the previously appointed election board is hereby relieved of their duties and responsibilities, and all of the provisions creating said election board and appointments thereto encompassed in Resolution No. 57-69 are hereby repealed. That for the purpose of the election to be held on January 20, 1971, for the purpose of electing a Charter Board pursuant to Florida Statute #166 there is hereby created an election board. Said board shall consist of a clerk of elections and inspectors. The clerk of elections for the purpose of this board shall be _ / y�?r��, %IZ,I�t �` The inspectors who shall comprise the balance of the election board shall be as follows: EXHIBIT " A " • Said board shall function pursuant to the requirements of the Charter of the City of Tamarac and of the laws of the State of Florida. That each member of said board shall receive as total compensation for their services performed $1.50 per hour for each hour of services performed on election day. Said board shall function at the pleasure of the City Council of the City of Tamarac and shall make all reports as required by the Charter of the City of Tamarac to the Clerk of the City of Tamarac and the Council. triEG' PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 14 day of ew 1970. Attached hereto is a report by Deputy Clerk of Reg-1-stration, Joe Ball, and his Committee comprised of Duke Foris, Opal Shelton, and Ruth Bale. For an initial meeting you will find they discussed many interesting and important points for consideration during the Election of January 20, 1971. As regards agenda item#1 the following names were suggested by this committee and meet with the approval of the City Clerk. ( see page two of the report, paragraph #11 ) Tom Mulligan Phyllis Titus Ruth Ball Evelyn Lange Art Saucier Marion Wollenweber Mae Benzing Marie Abrams Fred Schackenbach Opal Shelton Elsie Green Ella Bloustein Ruth Benner Mary Rosen Beatrice Bradie Ralph Commiso Toni Warren Zaha Kunph Mrs. Windergren Although the Committee has suggested two Election Boards ( one per polling place in accordance with State Law*) 1 would re- commend that the City follow its present Charter and elect one Clerk of Elections with One Deputy Clerk assigned to each polling place. The breakdown would appear as follows: EASTERN POLLING AREA Tom Mulligan, Clerk of Elections Phyllis Titus Ruth Ball, Deputy Clerk of Elections Evelyn Lange Art Saucier Marion Wollenweber Mae Benzing Marie Abrams Fred Schackenbach * State Law applies to County Elections, not municipal. ELECTION BOARD MEMO CONTINUED: WESTERN POLLING AREA Opal Shelton, Deputy Clerk of Elections. Elsie Green Ella Bloustein. The Clerk recommends the appointment of the above listed persons to the Election Board -- with Tom Mulligan to serve as Clerk of Elections and Opal Shelton and Ruth Ball to act as his deputies at each polling area. As a point of information, under my authority as City Clerk, I swore Joseph Ball of Tamarac Lakes in as my Deputy Clerk of Registration to work without compensation W4 th other volunteer help under his management in compiling the Re- gistration Books, files and lists to be turned over to this.
