RESOLUTION NO.
I IV
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING BROWARD COUNTY
TO ENACT A COUNTY --WIDE LEASH LAW AND
ENDORSING THE RESOLUTION PASSED BY THE
CITY OF HOLLYWOOD CITY COUNCIL, NO.
R--73-111 DIRECTED TO THE BROWARD COUNTY
COMMISSION
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Council that unlicensed and unsupervised dogs running loose
throughout the County creates a health and nuisance problem
for the citizens of Tamarac as citizens of Broward County,
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Hollywood,
Florida, by Resolution R-73-11, a copy of which is attached
hereto and incorporated herein by reference, has requested
the Broward County Commission to enact a county -wide leash
law under the supervision of the Rabies Control Division of
the Department of Health and to create a citizens advisory
board in connection therewith, and
WHEREAS, the City Council wholeheartedly supports
said resolution and desires to request that the Broward
County Commission adopt such an ordinance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of Tamarac,
Florida, endorses and wholeheartedly supports City Of Hollywood
Resolution No. R-73--111 requesting that the Broward County
Commission enact a county -wide leash law under the supervision
of the Rabies Control Division of the Department of Health
and to create a citizens advisory board in connection therewith.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk is hereby directed to
furnish a copy of this Resolution to the membership of the
Board of County Commissioners forthwith.

WHEREAS, AS, there is a serious and growing probleiz throughout
th,a: County concerning dogs, both licensed and unlicensed, running
loose without proper supervision; and
VIHEREAS, this creates a health and nuisance problem for
the citizens of the County, in addition to resulting in indiscrimi-
nate and prolific breeding of numerous surplus and unwanted animals;
and
'HER SAS, it .is incumbent upon us, for humane reasons, to
do everything within our power to reduce the excessive nur,.bers of
a.nima.l s that are necessarily put to death by various pu1blic and
private agencies, as a consequence of such uncontrolled breeding;
and
WHEREAS, the growing urbanization of the County, with
its resulting multiplicity of cities and towns, makes it iraprac-
ti: a.l for individual mu;�icipa_►_itios to establizh effective and
hu na znira-31 control prop-ams and holding kennels; and
1,41HEPLEAS, the Rabies Control Division of the Department
of Health presently patrols the entire County collecting unlicensed:
dogs, and is doing an efficient job of protecting the citizen, from
the dangers of rabies infection; and
WHEREAS, cons^quentl.y any municipal animal patrol, for
enforcing local leash laws, -would result in a certain amount of
duplication of effort and cost; and.
WHEREAS, the expansion of the Rabies Control Division's
personnel and equipment necessary to supplying this additional
could be readily financed by a small increase in the
