A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO
THE UNITED NATION'S RESOLUTION LABELING
ZIONISM AS A FORM OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION;
PROVIDING DIRECTIVES x0 THE CITY CLERK
TO FORWARD COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, TO ALL MUNICIPALITIES
WITHIN BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE
FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION, TO THE
UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED
NATIONS, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE
UNITED STATES.
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida,
considers the action taken by the United Nations General Assembly
by resolution declaring Zionism as a form of racism as shocking
and as a traversity of fact and truth, and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida,
believes that the action taken by the United Nations General
Assembly is an affront to the struggle of Jewish people through-
out the world who have steadfastly sought to break the yoke of
tyranny and discrimination, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida,
strongly condemns the use of the public forum of the United Nations
as a platform to bludgeon the rights, or origins of any peoples
of this earth, and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida,
wishes to by resolution express its strong opposition to and dis-
appointment in the action taken by the United Nations General
Assembly, said Assembly having been created so that all men
would have a public forum and that the world would best be served
by the implementation of this concept to promote world peace and
understanding, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tamarac, Florida
concludes that the passage of this resolution is in fact a blatant
form of racism expressing discrimination and bias in its worst
form, and most irrational form.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:

SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Tamarac,
Florida, strongly disagrees with the action of the General Assembly
of the United Nations taken in the form of a resolution which
labeled Zionism as a form of racism.
SECTION 2. That the City Council of the City of Tamarac,
Florida, concludes that Zionism rather than being a form of
racism, is a movement of national liberation of the Jewish people
and is in fact representative of the struggle of all people who
are oppressed.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk of the City of Tamarac,
Florida is directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution
to the Chairman of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners,
to all municipalities within Broward County, Florida, to the
Florida Congressional Delegation, to the United States Ambassador
to the United Nations, and to the President of the United States
and such other officials and persons as the Council may deem
advisable.
PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 13day of 1975.
