CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BROWARD COUNTY
COMMISSION TO DEFER FINAL DECISION WITH
RESPECT TO ZONING, REZONING, OR GRANTING OF
BUILDING PERMITS IN CERTAIN FLOODPLAIN AREAS
IN SOUTHWEST BROWARD COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the City Council deems there is a crucial need for
a zoning and building moratorium in Southwest Broward until the County
can properly and intelligently plan for the development of this sensi-
tive floodplai.n area, and
WHEREAS, many Broward citizens as well have expressed their
concern over the County's inability to provide services and facilities
to keep pace with its rapid growth, and
WHEREAS, drainage and flooding problems in the Southwest Broward
floodpl-ain area have been cited by authoritative sources, being the
Flood Control District, the South Florida Planning Council, the United
States Geological Survey, the Coastal Coordinating Council and the Bro-
ward Planning Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
Tamarac, Florida:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Tamarac hereby ur-
gently requests the Broward County Commission to defer final decision
with respect to zoning, rezoning, or granting building permits in those
sensitive floodplain areas of Southwest Broward County, until the appro-
priate studies can be completed and an intelligent development plan is
formulated for such areas.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk is hereby authorized to transmit copies
of this resolution to the members of the Broward County Commission and
such other persons or agencies as the Council may determine.
