RESOLUTION No. - 77-Z

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY
OF TAMARAC FORA REFERENDUM AS TO WHETHER OR NOT
BROWARD COUNTY SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE GOVERNED
UNDER A CHARTER FARM OF GOVERNMENT; PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, since the adoption of . the Broward County
Charter, it has become obvious that the County Administration
and certain of the County Commissioners view the Charter as a
vehicle for instituting a "metro" form of government in Broward
County; and
WHEREAS the City Council o.f the City of Tamarac has
previously expressed its opposition to a metro type of govern-
ment in any form; and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council of the
City of Tamarac that the voters of Broward County in approving the
Broward County Charter did not intend for a metro type of county
government; and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council of the
City of Tamarac that, if the Broward County Charter were to be
voted on today, it would be resoundingly defeated as a result of
the experience gained by the electorate during the period in" which
the Charter has been enforced; and
WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the City

Council of the City of Tamarac that there is in the County some
interest in starting a petition drive seeking a referendum as to
whether or not Broward County should continue to be governed
under a charter form of government; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Tamarac
hereby expresses its support far -_ a referendum as to -whether or not
Broward County should continue to be governed under a charter form
of government.
SECTION Z: That the City Clerk is hereby directed to send
copies of this Resolution to the Broward County Commission, the
