A RESOLUTION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO RECONSIDER IN THE IMPLE-- .
MENTATION of THE PROPOSED STATE OF FLORIDA
PRIMARY ROADWAY PLAN, TO INCLUDE AS A MAJOR
ARTERIAL ROADWAY, UNIVERSITY DRIVE FROM
CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA, SOUTH TO BROWARD
BLVD., AND COMMERCIAL BLVD. FROM THE TURN-
PIKE WEST TO ITS TERMINUS
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation has
been mandated by the Florida Legislature to implement the plan
adopted October 1, 1977, to reclassify those roads in the State
of Florida which should be designated as Primary roadways or
those roadways classified as a part of the State roadway system:,.
and
WHEREAS, all roads in the State of Florida which function
as major arterials should
be included and/or
considered
for
re-
classification as primary
roads and included
on the plan
to
be
prepared by the Florida Department of Transportation to be adapted
on or bef ore October 1, 1977, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation has conducted
hearings upon which roads in Broward County should be reclassified
as primary roads for the purpose of becoming a part of the Florida.
Arterial Highway Plan to be adopted before October 1, 1977, and
WHEREAS, Florida Department of Transportation neglected.,
failed or refused to consider the roads in western Broward County
west of the Turnpike as being sufficient character or nature to
qualify as being primary roads at the present time, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac wishes to object to the
Florida Department of Transportation's failure to properly consider
University Drive as a primary road to be included on the plan now
under consideration, and as such, eligible for additional gasoline
tax funds as provided for in State (CS/HB 803 and SB 32B), and

WHEREAS, University Drive is presently and functions
as , a principal primary arterial roadway f rom the City of Coral
Springs, Florida, through Broward County to the City of Miramar,
Florida.
TAMARAC:
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SECTION 1:
That the Florida Department of Trans-
portation reconsider its
decision not
to include or
designate
the roadways in Western
Broward County
(west of the
Turnpike)
on the State' s primary roadway plan, eligible for additional
gasoline tax funds as provided for in State (CS/HB 803 and SB 32B).
SECTION 2:
It would appear the Florida Department
of Transportation acted without sufficient or adequate information
in excluding Commercial Blvd. and University Drive from consideration
as being presently major arterial highways which should be de"R-
signated as primary roadways on the State Plan. Commercial Blvd,
is equivalent to Oakland Park Blvd as they provide the means as
the major portion for traversing northern Broward County east to
west and University Drive is comparable and comparable to State
Road ##7 , providing the major portion of the traffic from North
Broward County to the southern portion of Broward County.
SECTION 3: The City Clerk is instructed to
communicate a copy of this Resolution to each member of the
Florida Department of Transportation, immediately upon its
adoption.
