CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO . R -- -Sq
A RESOLUTION TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMIISSION
OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER
AND TO EXAMINE WITH CLOSE SCRUTINY THE RATE
INCREASE REQUESTS OF FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT
COMPANY AND BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY.
WHEREAS, the Florida Power and Light Company and
Southern Bell Telephone Company have recently requested rate
adjustments from the Public Service Commission of the State
of Florida.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
TAMMRAC , FLORIDA that:
SECTION 1. The Public Service Commission of the State
of Florida consider carefully the inflationary effect on the
consumers in 1977 should the rate increase be granted.
SECTION 2. That the Public Service Commission of the
State of Florida as a representative body of the citizenry of
the State of Florida examine judiciously and wisely the justi-
fication for rate increases propounded by the Florida Power
and Light and Southern Bell before making its final decision.
SECTION 3. The Public Service Commission of the State
of Florida pay close attention to the vast percentage of elderly
persons residing in the City of Tamarac and in the State of
Florida, who maintain their places of abode on fixed and unchanging
incomes.
SECTION 4. The Public Service Commission of the State
of Florida recognize and seriously consider the rate structure
of Florida Power and Light Company and Southern Bell Telephone
Company in light of the significant conservation efforts in
1975 and 1976.
SECTION 5. The Florida Power and Light Company and
Bell Telephone Company should, in presenting the proposed
rate increases, be required by the Public Service Commission of
the State of Florida to financially and statistically demonstrate
the need for all expenditures, especially those in the public
relations, advertising and lobbying areas.
SECTION 6. The Public Service Commission of the
State of Florida, in considering the rate i.ncreasc-s., also examine
carefully the allowable rate of return on investment afforded
the Florida Power & Light Company and Bell Telephone Company in
addition to salaries and administrative costs in operating
companies which publicly stresses cost consciousness and cost
efficiency to its consumers and customers.
SECTION 7. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to
send copies of
this Resolution to the
Public
Service Commission,
Broward County
Legislative Delegation,
Board
of County Commissioners,
Florida League of Cities, the Broward League of Cities, The
Florida Power & Light and Southern Bell.
