1 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
2 RESOLUTION NO.
3 A RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES
TO TAKE WHATEVER ACTIONS POSSIBLE TO BRING ABOUT
4 THE DEFEAT OF THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMEND-
MENT ABOLISHING SOVEREIGN IMMUNITY.

6 WHEREAS, the continued viability and vitality of the
7 Doctrine of Sovereign immunity is a prerequisite to keeping a lid
8 on skyrocketing insurance costs to municipalities; and
9 WHEREAS, without the protection of sovereign immunity
10 increased insurance costs must be passed on to the taxpayers of a
11 municipality; and
12 WHEREAS, the national trend and the desires of the public
13 are to reduce charges that are passed on to the public; and
14 WHEREAS there is currently pending before the electorate
15 of the State of Florida a proposed Constitutional amendment which
16 would abolish sovereign immunity in the State of Florida; and
17 WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities does not appear
18 to have strenuously opposed the adoption of this proposed con-
19 stitutional amendment; and
20 WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities is a voice of many
21 cities in Florida; and
22 WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac desires to urge the League
23 of Cities to actively oppose the proposed constitutional amendment
24 abolishing sovereign immunity.
25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
26 THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
27 SECTION 1: That the Florida League of Cities is hereby
28 urged to actively and vigorously use all resources at its command
29 to help bring about the defeat of the proposed constitutional amend-
30 ment abolishing sovereign immunity.
31 SECTION 2: That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded
32 to all municipalities within Broward County and the Broward League
33 of Cities.
34 SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be effective
