CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. 1Z- 7d0- 2-0
A RESOLUTION STRONGLY OPPOSING THE ACTION
OF THE STATE CONSTITUTION REVISION COMMISSION
ON SOVEREIGN IMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, the Constitution Revision Commission has
recently adopted legislation to repeal sovereign immunity
for all political jurisdictions, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac wishes to express
concern for the catastrophic impact the repeal of sovereign
immunity would have on the taxpayers of Florida in the form
of skyrocketing insurance premiums, and
WHEREAS, the taxpayers of these political jurisdictions
should not be subjected to the rash of speculative damage
claims and multimillion dollar lawsuits that repeal would surely
bring.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Tamarac
pleads with the Constitution Revision Commission to consider
all the ramifications of this damaging legislation.
SECTION 2: By copy of this Resolution the City urges
all municipalities in Broward Countv to adopt similar legislation.
