CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
RESOLUTION NO. R- V-elo
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF.CONFIDENTIALITY
FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL OF THE CITY OF TAMARAC
REGARDING RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS, HOME PHONE NUMBER, NAMES
OF DEPENDENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION OF A PRIVATE NATURE.
WHEREAS, Police Officers daily risk their lives and safety
to maintain peace and order in the community; and
WHEREAS, Police Officers must arrest suspects of crimes and
must often testify against these suspects at trial; and
WHEREAS, persons facing jail terms if Police Officers testify
against them may resort to physical violence against the Police
Officers or their families in order to prevent adverse testimony; and
WHEREAS, Police Officers are entitled to privacy and to shield
their families from the risk of violence by persons seeking to prevent
adverse testimony by the officer; and
-WHEREAS, some recent court decisions have indicated that Police
Officers must disclose certain information about themselves and their
families to defense attorneys which attempts to force disclosure are
nothing more than intimidation of the officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the Tamarac City Council supports the concept
of confidentiality for law enforcement personnel of the City of
Tamarac regarding residential address, home phone number, names of
dependents and other information of a private nature.
SECTION 2: That a copy of this Resolution shall be furnished
to each municipality in Broward County, the Florida Bar Association,
the Broward County Bar Association, the Chief Judge of the Seventeenth
Judicial Circuit, in and for Broward County, Florida, the Attorney
General
of the
State of
Florida,
the State Attorney,
in and for
Broward
County,
Florida,
and the
Sheriff of Broward
County.

SECTION 3: This Resolution shall be effective immediately
upon its adoption.
