3 A RESOLUTION URGING CESSATION OF USE OF
FORT LAUDERDALE EXECUTIVE AIRPORT FOR
4 ACTIVITIES THAT ARE OBNOXIOUS TO ITS
NEIGHBORS IN TAMARAC, INCLUDING WITHOUT
5 LIMITATION, AIR SHOWS, AND STUDENT TEST
FLIGHTS, AND HEAVY USE THAT WILL BE FOR
6 THE BENEFIT OF A CITY IN ANOTHER COUNTY.
7 1 WHEREAS, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport is being used in
8 1 a number of ways that are disturbing to the Citizens of Tamarac, and
9 WHEREAS, the primary objections center around various types
10 1 of noise generated by the airport users, and
11
WHEREAS,
two particularly obnoxious sources of noise pol-
12
lution are use for
air shows and use for student
flights, and
13
WHEREAS,
it is the understanding of the
Tamarac City Council
14 1 that an airshow is scheduled at Executive Airport at the end of
15 March, 1979, which will primarily benefit a City in another County,
16 and
(' 17 WHEREAS, the Tamarac City Council is perplexed about why
1V an airshow which will primarily benefit a municipality in another
19 County, would be allowed at Executive Airport, when there are air-
20 ports in the other County, and
21 WHEREAS, the Tamarac City Council wishes to go on record
22 as being in opposition to student flights and airshows at Executive
23 Airport and to announce its intention to take all possible actions
24 to oppose student flights and airshows, and to otherwise reduce
25 noise at the airport.
26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TAMARAC,
27 FLORIDA:
28 SECTION 1: The City of Tamarac vigorously objects to
29 the use of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport for student flights
30 and for airshows. Furthermore, Tamarac urges cessation of the use
l of Executive Airport for all activities that are obnoxious to its
32 neighbors in Tamarac.
33 SECTION 2: The Tamarac City Council remains flabbergaste
34 that an airshow would be allowed to take place over and near

1 a heavily populated area creating a substantial amount of additional
2 noise pollution.

SECTION 3:
The Fort Lauderdale City Commission is urged
4
to deny use of Fort Lauderdale
1
Executive Airport for airshows and
5
student training. It
is further urged to meet with the Tamarac City
6
Council so that other
problems concerning the airport can be aired
7
and solutions sought.

SECTION 4:
The Board of County Commissioners is urged to
9
stand with Tamarac in
opposition to use of Executive Airport for
10
airshows and student
flights, especially when the airshow will
11 1 primarily benefit a City or citizens of a City in another County,
12 and to advocate an appreciable reduction in noise levels at Executive
13 1 Airport.
14 SECTION 5: The FAA is urged to stand with Tamarac and do
15 everything within its power to eliminate obnoxious noises emanating
16 from Executive Airport.
17 SECTION 6: All Congressmen representing Broward, Dade and
18 Palm Beach Counties are urged to actively support Tamarac's efforts
19 to reduce noise at Executive Airport.
20 1 SECTION 7: All citizens in Tamarac and other areas
21 1 affected by the noise emanating from Executive Airport are urged
22 and encouraged to send letters, telegrams and make phone calls to
23 local, County and Federal agencies complaining about the unreasonabl
24 noise levels generated by the airport.
25 SECTION 8: The Mayor and all other appropriate City
26 Officials are authorized to request hearings before and meetings
27 with the appropriate, Federal Officials, whether they are in South
28 Florida or in Washington, to endeavor to see noise levels reduced.
29 SECTION 9: A copy of this Resolution is to be furnished
0 to the members of the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, the Fort
31 Lauderdale City Manager, all members of the Broward County Commis-
32 sion, all Congressmen representing Broward, Dade and Palm Beach
33 Counties and -the Federal Aviation Administration.
