1 CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA
2 RESOLUTION NO R -
3 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING GOVERNOR BOB GRAHAM'S
VETO OF THE CABLE TV DEREGULATION BILL AND
k FURTHER VOICING OPPOSITION TO ANY LEGISLATIVE
ACTION TOWARDS AN OVERRIDE OF SAID VETO.

6 WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac was and wishes to remain'in
7 the forefront of the campaign to convince the Governor of the in-
s equity and uncond- tutionality of HB 892, commonly known as the
9 Cable TV Deregulation Bill, and
10 WHEREAS, the City of Tamarac feels that Governor Graham
11 has rightfully vetoed HB 892, and
12 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature is now being pressured by
13 the Florida Cable Television Association, Inc. for the purpose of
14 overriding the Governor's veto, and
15 WHEREAS, the Florida Cable Television Association, Inc.,
36 who supported HB 892, is now repeating the same false, misleading,
17 and specious arguments that led to the adoption of this legislation,
18 and
19 WHEREAS, the Governor listed as one of the major arguments
20 against the bill the fact that it violated Article I, Section 10,
21 of the State Constitution, which provides that no law may impair
22 the obligation of contract, and
23 WHEREAS, neither conditions nor circumstances in the cable
24 TV industry have changed, except to point to higher profitability
25 in that industry,
26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
27 TAMARAC, FLORIDA:
28 SECTION 1: That the City of Tamarac herein goes on record
29 supporting the action of Governor Bob Graham in vetoing HB 892, known
30 as the Cable TV Deregulation Bill.
31 SECTION 2: That the City of Tamarac, along with other cities,
32 and/or organizations, affirmatively and actively supports the
33 Governor's veto of the Cable TV Deregulation Bill and shall actively
34 oppose any legislative action towards overriding said veto.

SECTION 3: That copies of this Resolution shall be forwarded
to all municipalities in Broward County; the Broward League of
Cities; the Florida League of Cities; and all members of the
Broward Legislative Delegation.
SECTION 4: This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its passage.
